Attic Insulation and Your Florida Roof

Attic temperature is a roofing issue, not just an energy issue. A hot, poorly ventilated attic cooks the underlayment and shortens the life of the covering above it.

Why the attic affects the roof

Trapped heat accelerates asphalt aging and can degrade underlayment from below. In humid Florida attics, that heat combined with moisture also creates condensation on the deck underside.

Insulation vs. ventilation

They are different jobs. Insulation slows heat transfer into the living space. Ventilation moves hot, moist air out of the attic. Adding insulation while blocking soffit vents makes the roof situation worse, not better.

What we check

Blocked soffit vents, insufficient intake versus exhaust, staining on the deck underside, and compressed or displaced insulation at the eaves.
