Attic ventilation is the most commonly neglected part of a Florida roof system, and its absence quietly shortens the life of everything above it.
It moves hot, humid air out of the attic and pulls cooler air in at the soffits. Without balanced intake and exhaust, the attic becomes a heat and moisture trap.
Accelerated asphalt aging, underlayment degradation from below, condensation on the deck underside, and in bad cases mold and deck deterioration.
Adding ridge vent without adequate soffit intake does not help. The system has to be balanced, and blocked soffit vents are extremely common after insulation work.
