What corrodes

Fasteners, flashing, drip edge, valley metal, vents and gutter hardware. On metal roofs, cut edges and scratches in the coating are the entry points.

How it shows up

Rust staining at fastener heads, deteriorating flashing at penetrations, and premature failure of edge metal — often long before the covering itself is worn out.

Material selection

Aluminum panels, stainless or coated fasteners, and corrosion-resistant flashing on coastal jobs. Getting this wrong shortens the roof by years.
